New Parade Application Process for 2020

Our 42nd annual pride parade will be on Sunday Aug 2, 2020. Over the past 4 years the parade has reached capacity earlier and earlier. We have now reached capacity and are WAIT LISTING ALL parade applications.

Our application process has changed this year. Please read through them carefully so your organization isn't disappointed!

  • All applications must be filled in completely. Each application will be date stamped when it arrives and will be reviewed by the Parade Working Group in order of acceptance. Incomplete applications will be returned and your re-submission will be date stamped only when it is complete.

  • This year, VPS will have 35 entries reserved for LGBTQAI2S+ specific organizations*, 30 for non-profits, schools, unions and political parties, 25 entries for our sponsors and 40 for small, medium and large businesses. Once each category is full, applicants will be waitlisted.
    *If there are more than 35 LGBTQAI2S+ organizations, they will be given priority over businesses.

  • Each entry is limited to 100 marchers. For the past few years, we have seen most entries increase in size, with many over 250 people, and this has required VPS to add more space to the staging area and has increased the length of the parade. Please read updated guidelines and understand that you will be charged for your actual entry numbers (which will be noted on parade day) PLUS an additional fine if you are over the number of marchers originally indicated on your application.

  • If you have a parade infraction, depending upon the severity of the infraction, you may be asked to not participate in the following year. Please read the parade guidelines, ensure you send a representative to the parade safety briefing and adhere to the safety rules. We do observe your entries in the staging area and watch the parade footage post-parade to look for infractions.

  • Please review the rate card for changes. There will be no more early bird rates. The new rates are an average between early and late rates. Vancouver Pride Society is committed to making the parade accessible to LGBTQAI2S+ organizations and community groups, therefore, rate increases have been applied with this lens.     Parade Applicant Criteria

    For the past 4 years, each parade application has been reviewed and scored on a matrix by a Parade Working Group (PWG) made up of volunteer community members. The matrix is based on the Parade Application Form questions and points are awarded for the following:

  • Description of parade entry plan, including elements that will add meaning and/or fun for the parade viewers
  • Can your organization demonstrate that it has policies around sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, anti-discrimination, anti-bullying, diversity, etc.?
  • What initiatives does your organization engage in that supports the LGBTQAI2S+ community throughout the year? (internally within your organization and externally in the community at large)
  • How do your values align with the Vancouver Pride Society values?
  • Does your organization have any recent incidents of homophobia or transphobia and if so, was this rectified or not?
  • Has your organization had a parade infraction? (please see parade guidelines)

    PLEASE ENSURE YOU FILL OUT THE PARADE APPLICATION IN ITS ENTIRETY so that your application can be reviewed and scored by the Parade Working Group.

    Refund Policy

    The 2020 Pride Parade Refund Policy includes a grace period where parade entrants who request a refund between 60 and 90 days from the event date will receive a refund of 50% of their parade entry fee.

    No refunds will be issued within 60 days of the event.
