Accessibility

ASL Interpreters

One accessible viewing zone will have ASL interpretation available at the accessibility seating viewing zone nearest to the Festival site on Pacific Blvd. after Smithe Street.

Audio Description

Vocal Eye will be doing audio description at the accessibility seating viewing zone nearest to the Festival site on Pacific Blvd. after Smithe Street.

Accessible Viewing Areas

There will be four accessible viewing zones along the Parade route. 

Accessible viewing zone on the North side of Beach Avenue at Burnaby Street above the Bathhouse: 

  • Shade tents

  • Seating (various seating types, chairs with arms, chairs without arms, chairs with soft seats etc.)

  • Accessible portapotty

  • Fidget toys

  • Masks required.

  • First aid tent nearby

SENIORS accessible viewing zone outside the Roundhouse Community Center at Pacific Blvd and Davie Street.

  • Shade tents

  • Seating (various seating types, chairs with arms, chairs without arms, chairs with soft seats etc.)

  • Access to accessible washroom facilities at the Roundhouse Community Center

  • Fidget toys

  • Masks available upon request. Not required.

  • First aid tent nearby

  • Low sensory space available inside the Roundhouse Community Center. In room B on the ground floor. The space has water fountains, air conditioning and toilets available.

First Aid

There will be 6 first aid stations along the Parade route.  All of the Vancouver Pride Society staff will have Naloxone training prior to the event. First aid stations are located next to Accessible viewing areas along the Parade route and are staffed by St. John Ambulance.

Security

The security company, Genesis will be onsite for the entire duration of the event. If you are experiencing security issues, please contact a VPS staff member or volunteer onsite. VPS staff will be wearing light blue t-shirts and a black or white Vancouver Pride branded bucket hat. They will also have access to a radio. Parade volunteers will be wearing blue shirts with yellow safety vests over top.

Public Transport

The event will not obstruct Translink bus stops. Here are some routes to the Accessibility Viewing zones:

Parking & Street Closures

  • There are various parking lots and street parking spots along the Parade route. For locations and pricing visit parkopedia.

  • Full list of street closures will be available closer to the event date.

Shade and Shelter

There will be shade tents available at accessibility viewing zones. There is also shade along Pacific Blvd under the Granville Street bridge (Pacific/Granville) and under the Cambie Street bridge (Pacific Blvd / Nelson). Much of the Parade route is also shaded by trees and buildings.

Low Sensory Zone

There is a low sensory zone situated inside the Roundhouse Community Center in Room B on the main floor. This will have Access to water fountains, air conditioning and accessible toilets.

Sensory Aids

Fidget toys are available at the accessible viewing areas.

Service Animals

Service animals are welcome at the event.

Washroom: 

Gender neutral portable washroom facilities will be available at accessible viewing areas. The unit door width is 31.7" (830mm) and the seat height is 19" (521mm). 

Scent Reduction

Scent Reduction Policy in effect. Avoid wearing perfume and strong scents as much if can.

Masks

Masks are not required. Available at accessible viewing zones for those who request them.

Tables & Seating

Various seating options are available. There have accessibility areas at each 4 areas:

  • North side of Beach Avenue at Burnaby Street

  • Roundhouse Community Center at Pacific Blvd and Davie Street.

  • Pacific Blvd after Smithe Street (2 viewing zones here)

Wayfinding

  • Accessible viewing zones will be clearly labelled with high contrast signage and bright orange sky flags that say “Accessibility”

Mobility

Accessible viewing zones are situated on wide, flat paved areas. The majority of the sidewalks along the Parade route are wide enough to accommodate multiple rows of people and mobility devices, particularly around the Yaletown district. Some sidewalks are cracked.
